"Cinderhood." Join us for this delightful original musical on Thursday, Feb. 23, 7:00 pm at Christian Union Church. The performance will be in the sanctuary. Plan to stay afterward for refreshments and meet the musicians, including the founder and artistic director of Chicago Opera Playhouse, Metamora's own Linden Christ. A free-will offering will be received.
As in previous years, any children who wish to sing with the opera singers on Thursday evening are invited to learn a short 4 measure phrase. Please see Heidi in the office for the music. Plan to attend a brief rehearsal on Thursday at 6:20 pm in the chapel.
Preparations are underway. Creativity, excitement and energy are flowing freely. Thank you to everyone who is already on board! If you want to join in, or need more information, please stop at our information center in the narthex, contact Stephanie at cucsrussell@mtco.com, or phone the church office: 309-367-4603. Sunday mornings, 9:00 am to 9:45 am. Classes for ages two through adult. (Parents, having your children arrive 5 minutes early would be very helpful to the teachers.)
Feb 26 - Bible Story: Stephen Being Stoned (Acts 6:8:-15, 7:54-60) Application: Forgive Those Who Hurt You
Parents, consider re-reading the "Bible Story" passage at dinner and then sharing how you plan to apply the Bible Story to your daily life. Use the “Application” below as your starting point. Then encourage your children to share how they too can apply these lessons to their everyday lives.
Adult Sunday School is presently studying the book of Luke using the book "Luke for Everyone" by N. T. Wright. We have extra books available for anyone who wants to join us.
Youth Group will meet at the church for Bible Study on Sunday, March 4, from 4:00-5:30 pm.
Heidi Malone leads a Bible Study for adults in the Junior High Sunday School room from 5:30-6:30 pm. We have just begun a new study on the Book of Acts (The Acts of the Apostles). It’s going to be an interesting and exciting study…discovering how God’s Spirit moved in the early believers to shape His church and equip them to change their world. We have the same call, the same message, and the same powerful Spirit at work in us today. Come study with us and discover where God is calling you to step out, use your gifts and share His life-changing message with your world. Everyone is welcome! We will take a break during Lent so we can participate in the Lenten meals and worship, but then we’ll dive back into Acts after Easter.
Pastor Gary and Stephanie Russell lead K-6th graders (ages 5-12) in a fun children's program we call "60 Minutes To Live It!" Children younger than age five may attend, but only if accompanied by a parent. All parents are welcome to attend with their child regardless of their age. "60 Minutes" meets from 6:30-7:30 pm on the first three Wednesdays of each month. We usually take a break the fourth (and fifth) Wednesday of the month.
Note: "60 Minutes"is on break from February 22-April 4. During Lent, the season before Easter, "60 Minutes" will not be meeting, to allow families to attend the Lenten Dinners and Worship on Wednesday evenings. "60 Minutes" will resume meeting at its regular time after Easter.
